Diary of 12 year old Esmond Rice, who was born in 1892 and lived most of his life in Waban, a village of Newton, Massachusetts. The diary recounts his experience at school and Sunday school, playing with friends, sports, comments on the weather, his appendectomy, misbehavior, holidays, money-making ventures, trips to Gloucester and the North Shore. He uses colorful slang throughout. The diary was “published” by Esmond’s nephew, Charles R. Ayer, and his youngest sister, Lois. - |
