When Annie Johnson left, Ellen Hyde was named principal. Hyde an alumna of Framingham (1862) was Principal from 1875-1898. Previously, Hyde had been an assistant to Johnson, just as Johnson had been to her predecessor. The school continued to expand under her guidance: the Model School became the Practice School and grew from two mixed-age rooms to nine grades; the Boston School of Household Arts relocated from Boston to Framingham, and the Glee Club was formed. Also during Hyde's tenure, May and Crocker Halls were built. |
