May Hall was built in 1889, and was named in honor of Miss Abby W. May, the official visitor from the Massachusetts Board of Education. The school day often started at 8:45 a.m. and ended at 1:45 p.m. from Tuesday through Saturday. At the outset, prayer and Scriptures were taught and sung. Each class period was approximately 55 minutes long, and after classes the students were expected to engage in physical activity for at least one hour. Dinner was at 5:30 p.m., followed by a two-hour study period from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The school day ended at 10:00 p.m. |
